I'm being told by family that I need to wait before I either get new glasses or LASIK. Should I listen to them

When I am driving, especially at night, it is hard to see. My current glasses were in my purse that was stolen. The glasses I am now using are about 7 years old (I'm 50 years old). While we are trying to get a handle on the income and expenses for our business, we have someone helping us and she says I need to wait 6 months before I do anything. There is no guarantee that in 6 months I would have the go ahead. The LASIK would be about $250 to $300 per month, interest free, for 12 months. I almost ran a red light a couple of nights ago since I couldn't see well. This is a NEED, not a want. I don't want everyone angry with me but waiting is not an option. I am not a child and I know what I need. They just don't understand the need or they just discount it. What is your opinion about defying everyone and getting the LASIK while my husband is out of town for 10 days?

Answers:

1. I wouldn't do it on the sly, but I would do it. Why wait six months? You need to see. You're 50 years old. Grow a backbone and do what you need to do.

2. You do what you feel is best for you. If your family can't understand that then they can just not deal with it. You deserve to see the best way possible. GO FOR IT!

3. Hi Dizney... Look at it this way. You either get new glasses, or you get the surgery. Mistakes while driving can get you killed. If money is the issue, then get the eye exam and the glasses until you can have the surgery. I had the surgery 5 years ago. Not impressed. I'm back into reading glasses, and now noticing my distance vision isn't as good as it was. It's certainly your choice, but rather than make your husband angry, why not get new glasses, and then you still have the option to choose the surgery at a later date.

4. Go and get new glasses. Tell your financial adviser that you have to be able to see . It's probably not in your budget to get the LASIK right now, and incurring another debt while your husband is out of town is disrespectful. Get the glasses so that you are able to see and later on consider the LASIK.
