Why do people think that to date means to have sex?

I saw a 15 year old who wanted to date a 13 year old. He really liked her, and he had no intention of getting "intimate" because that would be just plain wrong, and yet everybody thought he was just some perv wanting to have sex with a 13 year old. It's stupid.

Okay, so according to your logic, all marriages and relationships are based entirely on sex.... That makes a lot of sense. And I noticed the quote you put around "friend", just for the record, it isn't my friend, it's someone else who asked a question like this on answers. And it's not me, I don't even know any 13 year olds....

And so a married couple who are physically incapable of having sex are just "friends" then.... Uh huh...

Okay then, a non married couple has to have sex otherwise they're just friends? That's not true either...

4. Because that's just society and culture these days. The media (movies, TV, advertisements, magazines, etc) makes it seem like everyone is having a wealth of sexual encounters and portrays relationships as such. People may try to emulate that.

5. Perhaps because dating without sex is called "friendship."

6. Agreed.

7. because the term "date" is what hookers say to their customers.

8. Sex is usually the end result of dating. If your "friend" has no intention of getting intimate, then he's not really dating her- he's just being her friend. Edit: Your logic is flawed. A married couple who is incapable of having sex is still a married couple. A marraige (a successful one at least) is not soley based on sex, although it is a very important factor. And...You're question doesnt say anything about marraige. We're talking about dating, remember?

9. Ok when it comes to this kind of situation a lot of people think that just because he is young and a boy so they think that because he just went through puberty.

10. Yeah, I know what u mean. I asked this guy a simple q, about a girl cooking for him...because u know, he likes ethnic cuisine but he's just learning how to cook it, so I thought some female friends of his might help him out. His response was: get ur mind out of the gutter. It wasn't IN the gutter to begin with! Anyway, to answser ur q, I think it's because sex is just part of the dating game now. If u didn't have sex while u were dating, people would think u were weird. This appliles to teenagers too. I think it's because, when u date and like a person, the attraction's gonna be there, and plus, everyone thinks teen guys especially, only want one thing...u know, since guys are visual by nature, and that's usually what attracts them to a girl. So, it's like, ok, u like a thirteen yr old, so u must think she's hot, and ok, if u think she's hot, u must want to bang her. That's the prevailing first thought in most ppl's minds. This goes on wheather ur fifteen or forty five. Then of course, the judgements start. But if u say u just like a girl cause she's cool, and sex never even crossed ur mind, then people will wonder y not, because if u find her sexually attractive, y wouldn't u have sex with her? No one thinks anyone's decent anymore. There are too many icky people out there, and so it's hard to be an upstanding person, particularly when it comes to dating; so when u go against the norm, then people start questioning the oddity. Besides, what's wrong with a fifteen year old wanting to have sex with a thirteen year old anyway? I mean, it's just like a seventeen year old having sex with a nineteen year old(in some states, seventeen is considered adult).
