When you go to get your marriage license, do you take the license with you that day or?

do you have to wait for it in the mail? How much time (weeks, months) in advance before your wedding should you go to get it??

Answers:

1. 5 hours ago
Oops, I live in Los Angeles!!

2. In Ohio you get it that day. You have to wait 3 days to use it but you have to use it within 30 days. So, you cannot just get your license and get married the next day. There is a 72 hour waiting period.

3. It depends on the state, and sometimes even the county. I live in So Cal, and in Orange County we got the license the same day we applied for it. We went to the courthouse, typed info into a computer, they called our names, and they finished some other paperwork and we were done. Some states and/or counties make you wait. Some marriage licenses expire after a certain time, so be sure to check with your local courthouse and see what the rules are for the state and county where you live. Good luck! Update: I checked the California marriage license laws and found that there is no waiting period, so you should be able to get the license the same day you apply, and the license is valid for 90 days before it expires. If it expires before your wedding, you need to reapply for a license. I put the link where I got this information, and it does say to check with your local court house. I suggest you just give them a call, they can answer any questions we didn't answer for you on here.

4. i live in virginia and we went to the courthouse and gave them our i.d.'s and they printed out the marriage license then and there and we left with it. Each state varies on how long you have to wait until you can get married. there could be no wait time or you could have to wait a few days to a few weeks. Check out your states official website and you should be able to find out everything you want to know

5. If you are just picking up the license you get it that day. Once you get it signed by the person marrying you, you send it back to the court house, and they will mail it back to you with your marriage certificate. If you a get married at the court house you go back the very next day and pick it up at the court house. It would be wise to do it two or three days before...a week would be good because if there was anything unexpected to come up, you would have enough time to get it taken care of. Find out what is required in your state before you go, and make sure to take everything you need. (Birth certificates, social security cards, blood tests in some states, government issued photo ids, divorce papers if this isn't the first marrige for either party etc...)

6. i know you live in LA but in franklin county (ohio) you can get the marriage license but you've got 60 days to use it. I'll probably get mine the month of my wedding, probably at the beginning of april.

7. I got married in Florida and we got the license three days before we were married. We had to fill out an information sheet plus pay the fees then the clerk typed it in and gave us the license for the person marrying us to sign. We were told that if we were to attend a marriage counciling siminar that we could get married before the three days.

8. I was able to take mine with me, it has to be signed by the paster or priest (or who ever does marry you) and then returned to file by the courts or county clerk.

9. You do take it home. After your wedding, you will be signing it along with your wittnesses and the officiate. In the state of Arizona, it is a two part document. You keep the larger, and send in to the state the smaller, where it would be recorded, and made part of the public record. Best wishes, Chaplain Debby
