And I want to tell my mom cause she and I are super tight. But she thinks that I think that he's an idiot, and I used to think that but I've gotten to know him better and I really like him now.

3. look plain and simple just get into a conversation with your mum and just pop this in lads i used to hate mr x but now that i got to no him he is really nice i actually fancy him just try it i no it will work

Try to bring it up like this since your mom knows you use to think he was stupid, "Hey mom you know that guy I thought was stupid well I have been talkin to him and now that I got to know him I kinda like him" and just wait for a response. Parents understand the fact that kids change there feelings about eachother alot threw there teenage life.
5. Just start off the conversation with something that has nothing to do with the guy you like and then casually just say something along the lines of "do you remember *guys name&*?" Obviously she'll say yeah. "Well I think I like him now. I've gotten to know him and he's not so bad" or something like that. I'm sure it won't be that hard to tell her, she is your mom after all
